On 12th July 2024, the Indian government declared 25th June as 'Constitution Murder Day.' This day marks a dark period in India's history when, for nearly two years, the country resembled a dictatorship akin to North Korea. During this emergency period, hundreds of thousands of people, including opposition leaders and royal family members, were imprisoned and tortured without any crime.

The concept of 'bulldozer justice,' which the current opposition criticizes, originated during this emergency. Congress, which champions minority rights today, was accused of mass persecution of Muslims at the time.

The emergency was initially justified by some as a nationalist move necessary for the country, with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and even the RSS supporting it. The declaration of 'Constitution Murder Day' by the BJP raises questions about whether it's a political tool or an attempt to whitewash current accusations of dictatorship against Modi.

The HotSpot spoke to the Samajwadi Party President, Akhilesh Yadav one day after 7 MLAs of his party in UP Assembly cross voted for a BJP candidate. During the course of the interview UP’s ex-chief minister candidly admitted that his alliance partner, the Congress suffered poor cadre strength. He said “the SP agreed to give 17 Lok sabha seats to the congress to maintain the ally’s stature.”
Speaking on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s attack on actor Aishwarya Rai ( who is SP Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan’s daughter-in-law), Yadav said he will ask Rahul Gandhi to refrain from making such comments and uphold dignity of women. He explained his strategy for the coming LS polls and dismissed the departure of allies like RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary.
