The Bharat Jodo Yatra is all about learning by listening to the voices of every section of India - lending an ear to the unheard stories of their struggles and triumphs. It is the confluence of these personal journeys with our unifying movement, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which will help forge a better future for all.

The next pitstop of the Bharat Jodo Yatra was at the Biker's market in Karol Bagh, New Delhi where I met a group of ‘Super Mechanics’, and had candid conversations with these hard-working men who keep the wheels of Bharat moving.

I made an effort to understand the difficulties and learn about the dreams of mechanics in India. Many of them wanted to pursue studies during their younger days, but were forced by circumstances to become mechanics. They have given their best years to this profession. Some learnt the skills from their ‘Ustaads’, others were self-taught. Whatever course their lives took, through hard-work and dedication they have emerged as probably the best, though the most underrated motorcycle engineers in India.

Umed Shah, a senior mechanic, taught me the nuances of servicing a bike. During our conversation, he told me how poverty had forced him to stop his studies and become a mechanic, like his elder brother.

Two other ‘Super Mechanics’, Manoj Paswan and Vicky Sen told me the meagre returns of their profession worries them everyday because of the responsibilities of family life. Pressure to make ends meet, poor work conditions, lack of education and safety guidelines has caused serious health ailments to many - some diagnosed, but I fear many still remain undetected.

Our mechanics toil to sustain the automobile industry - they deserve access to better facilities and the best opportunities. In the prosperity and well-being of every individual and the workers of every profession lies Bharat's true progress.

On 12th July 2024, the Indian government declared 25th June as 'Constitution Murder Day.' This day marks a dark period in India's history when, for nearly two years, the country resembled a dictatorship akin to North Korea. During this emergency period, hundreds of thousands of people, including opposition leaders and royal family members, were imprisoned and tortured without any crime.

The concept of 'bulldozer justice,' which the current opposition criticizes, originated during this emergency. Congress, which champions minority rights today, was accused of mass persecution of Muslims at the time.

The emergency was initially justified by some as a nationalist move necessary for the country, with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and even the RSS supporting it. The declaration of 'Constitution Murder Day' by the BJP raises questions about whether it's a political tool or an attempt to whitewash current accusations of dictatorship against Modi.

Had an interesting chat with a group of IT and consultancy professionals from various organisations like Google, KPMG, and Deloitte who traveled from various states across the country to join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

We spoke on a number of topics, including Artificial Intelligence capabilities in India, building a democratic production economy focused on creating jobs, augmenting production centres by connecting technology networks, policy and regulatory concerns of the Tech industry, and much more.

On the one hand, our primary producers, India's farmers are being harassed and denied their right to a minimum income; on the other hand, the second level of production, MSMEs suffer the burden of a poorly planned GST and the monopoly of crony capitalists.

Encouraging manufacturing and a Democratic production system is the key to job creation and boosting our economy, and it is the only way forward.
